Designing Digital Futures Around People

My research and teaching focus on the intersection of Digital Media, Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience, Human-Centered AI, Accessibility, and Digital Education. At the heart of my work is one central question: How can we design digital technologies that are innovative, usable, trustworthy, accessible, and centered around human needs? I combine academic research and teaching with educational innovation and collaboration with industry and society.
Beyond research and teaching, I am actively engaged in the academic community through scientific committees, professional associations, and mentoring. I serve as a member of the University Council of Hochschule Ruhr West and am a member of the Association of German Scientists (VDW) and German UPA. Previously, I served as Spokesperson of the Media Informatics Group of the German Informatics Society (GI). I am also a mentor with Mentoring Hessen, supporting women in pursuing careers in academia and industry.
Before joining DHBW Mannheim, I was Professor and Head of the degree programs Media Informatics (M.Sc.), Human-Computer Interaction (M.Sc.), and Digital Media (B.Sc.) at Wilhelm Büchner Hochschule, where I also served as Ombudsperson for Good Scientific Practice. Previously, I was Managing Director of the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center SFB 1053 MAKI at Technische Universität Darmstadt and taught internationally through the Flying Faculty Program.
My academic background combines Engineering Informatics, Intelligent and Accessible Systems, and Human-Computer Interaction. I received my doctorate from the University of Hohenheim and gained industry experience with companies including John Deere, Bosch Siemens Home Appliances, Daimler, and Ford.
My ambition is to remain curious, advance knowledge through research and teaching, and share it with others – because knowledge becomes most valuable when it is shared.
